Born and raised in Thunder Bay, Hannes retired from TBayTel in 2007 after 25 years as an Engineering Technician.   

Hannes began volunteering for United Way in 1996 as a canvasser for the City of Thunder Bay Employees’ United Way Campaign. His involvement has grown immensely over the years and Hannes is now part of many United Way activities including the City/EMS/SSAB and TBayTel Campaign Kick off Lunches, City/EMS/SSAB Spaghetti Dinner, and Billboard Rescue. Hannes is also a member of United Way committees as Allocation Team Leader, Board Member and now Campaign Team member.

In the rest of his “spare” time, Hannes is also the Chair of the Confederation College Fitness Centre User Committee, where he enjoys outdoor jogging.

Hannes and his wife Sandy are both very committed to our community and to making it a better place for everyone. Hannes believes it is important to surround yourself with positive people and knows the United Way staff and volunteers are that kind of people. He is very enthusiastic and optimistic about being part of the 2010 Campaign and knows the impact United Way has on the community.
