Jerry grew up on a farm near Dauphin, Manitoba, however has called Thunder Bay home for more than 35 years. He retired from RBC Royal Bank Commercial Banking in April 2006 following a career of almost 40 years.
During his first posting to Thunder Bay in June 1970 he met his future wife, Helga, and they married in 1972. After various locations in Manitoba they returned to Thunder Bay to stay in 1974. Their children Janine and Jordan were born here and while both are currently living elsewhere, they still call it home.
Jerry first became involved with United Way as a contributing member of RBC Employee Campaign for many years. The annual presentations by “Sponsored Employees” made everyone aware of the important work being done by the United Way. In 2004 Jerry became an active member of the United Way Campaign Corporate Leaders committee which he now co-chairs.
He has also, since 1996, served on the Board of Directors of The Thunder Bay Police Youth Corps, an organization dedicated to engaging the youth of our community. In addition he was formerly a member of the Hill City Kinsmen Club having served on the executive for several years.
Along with their two shihtzus JJ and Roxy, both Helga and Jerry very much enjoy the sights and sounds of Canada. "It is an honor and very rewarding for me to be a part of the United Way dedicated team of staff and volunteers and to be able to make a difference in someone's life. The support of the United Way by the citizens of Thunder Bay truly shows we are the city with the Giant Heart."
