Wendy Holmquist
Ministry of Transportation
Wendy was born in Toronto but has lived in Thunder Bay since 1973. She is a Senior Transportation Designer with MTO and also the proud owner of Dance Dynamics Studio. Wendy spends her free time with her daughter Melissa and her grandson Trentin along with their 2 dogs, Roxy and Cinnamon.
Wendy's involvement with United Way began in 2005 as a Speaker after realizing that some help she had received during a difficult time was the result of a program sponsored through United Way. She and her family have since discovered that throughout the years they have accessed a variety of United Way Funded Agencies.
In addition to her United Way involvement Wendy has been involved in many charitable activities including Canadian Mental Health Association’s Suicide Bereavement Support and Lakehead University Medical School’s Suicide Education. Through her dance studio she is also able to mentor and develop life skills, responsibility, time management and build self-esteem in young people.
Wendy bowls with ACE Bowling League. She has also been involved with Molson Slow-pitch, and the Current River & PA Minor Hockey Associations. Her favorite time is with her family at camp.
Wendy's philosophy on life is that "God only gives you as much as you can handle; we all have a purpose in life and when we have fulfilled it we will move on. No life is without suffering no matter how it appears on the outside; we can not know what truly happens behind closed doors, we only need to know to be there when a hand reaches out for help."
Wendy is very excited to be a Sponsored Employees, giving back to the community is a truly awe-inspiring experience of which she wishes she could do more. She is confident 2008 will be a great campaign.
