A Responsible Allocation Process

Community Fund Distribution

United Way of Thunder Bay operates on a basis of sound financial practices. We adhere to a standard for accounting known as TAFR (Transparency & Accountability in Financial Reporting) set by the United Way of Canada.

As part of this practice, United Way of Thunder Bay allocates funding to charitable organizations based on the advice of an independent Allocations Committee. Comprised of community volunteers, the Allocations Committee is responsible for the analysis of funding applicaitons, awarding of funding and program follow up.

The committee is divided into six panels of volunteers who meet with applicants' staff, board members and clients before making final decisions as to funding.

"In the fall when our committee first reviews the applications for funding,
we are challenged by the fact that the amount of money requested
is usually 40% to 50% more than what we have to give."
~ Tom Boyle, Allocations Committee Chair
